Is Imus uproar in Context?

Here at the Oldenfat Blog we normally stick to what we know-sports and beer. But the outrage over the recent comments from Don Imus about the Rutgers Women's' Basketball has us confused.

We are not confused over whether or not Imus's comments were racist and offensive-they WERE. What we are confused about is when is the Reverand Al and Jesse radio show to chastize Ludacris , Pepper, Eamon, TLC and other musical artists who use the exact same word in their songs. Where are the boycots of their records or demands for their firings? How can Ludicris get away with his lyrics in the song "Ho": Hooooooooo (Ho)Youza Hoooooo (Ho)Youza Hoooooo (Ho)I said that youza hooooo (Ho).....How can Pepper sing in his song Ho's: "Run down the road still viewing sluts, bowcats, These ho's are trying to fool me". Eamon sings in his song I love them Ho's: "I love them ho's, love them ho's, love them ho's"......

Is there a list of words somewhere that is available that shows us which words a rap star can use but a Shock Jock cannot use? Reverend Al and Jesse would be much more believable if they would also shout out their outrage when athletes and artists of color use the exact same words that Imus did than if they only show outrage when it is an old white dude saying it.

Again-we have no problem with everybody getting upset over what Imus said. It is indefensible. But it is also indefensible for ANY other member of society to use the exact same words-regardless of their color, their sex, their job or for any other reason. Let's fire them all!
